The word ‘Baba’ is a term of endearment in India, used to honour a father figure, guru or spiritual teacher. As mothers, we try to teach our children the importance of karma, respect for our elders and the natural environment, even down to the way our clothes are made.
We met and became friends in New York City while both pursuing careers in the fashion industry, Nicky as a stylist for publications such as Nylon, Wallpaper and Elle magazine, and Camilla as a women's wear designer. It wasn’t until many years later, when we both returned to England with our respective families that the idea for Baba was born.
Building on our friendship and a shared love for vintage fabrics and textiles, we felt inspired to design a small thoughtful collection for children that reflected our own style and values. Drawing from Camilla’s childhood memories of trips to India with her family, we combined the vibrant and bold patterns of traditional hand block printed fabrics with the colours and textures of nature, to create playful and whimsical dresses. Lovingly made in a small family-run factory near Delhi, our oversized silhouettes are super comfortable to wear and perfect as hand-me-downs between siblings, cousins and friends.
We hope you and your little ones will wear and enjoy them with the same love with which they were made.
